“I need to know what happened to my son,” a woman says at the end of the brand new season 3 trailer for 13 Reasons Why, which reveals the fate of a major character: Bryce is dead. But who did it?

According to Deadline, the upcoming third season of 13 Reasons Why picks up eight months after Clay, Tony, Jessica, Alex, Justin, and Zach prevented Tyler from doing something very bad. The group bonds over the cover-up until “the aftermath of a tumultuous Homecoming game culminates in the disappearance of a football player, and Clay finds himself under police scrutiny.” A thorough investigation follows, and Deadline teases that “it’s up to a shrewd outsider to steer the group through an investigation that threatens to lay bare everyone’s deepest secrets.”

Not gonna lie, the official trailer feels a lot like an episode of Pretty Little Liars(miss you!), save for the British voice—new character Ani (Grace Saif)—narrating the events in the video. Could she be this “shrewd outsider”?

The trailer comes just weeks after Netflix announced it would be pulling the graphic season 1 scene in which Hannah takes her own life. “As we prepare to launch Season 3 later this summer, we’ve been mindful about the ongoing debate around the show,” the statement read. “So on the advice of medical experts, including Dr. Christine Moutier, Chief Medical Officer at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, we’ve decided with creator Brian Yorkey and the producers to edit the scene in which Hannah takes her own life from Season 1.”

Season 3 will officially hit the streaming service on August 23. Watch the full trailer below.
