John Lewis has finally dropped its advert today (Thursday, November 14). The high street retailer has become renowned for its Christmas campaign throughout the years. In 2018, John Lewis paid tribute to Sir Elton John and his music. Here’s the heartwarming advert for 2019 promising much Yuletide joy.
This is the first time John Lewis and Waitrose will be teaming up for their Christmas adverts.
This year’s campaign is two minutes and 30 seconds but will be melting hearts none the less.
The commercial focuses on an excitable dragon called Edgar who just can’t wait for Christmas.
However, his enthusiasm for Christmas backfires after he keeps breathing fire and causing blazes left, right and centre.
Edgar meets a girl called Ava, who is getting ready to celebrate the festive season.
The pair become firm friends but things don’t go quite to plan with Edgar accidentally burning all things in sight.
Their ice skating session is brought to a halt after Edgar accidentally melts the rink, while the Christmas tree is reduced to a crisp midway through its dressing due to the dragon.
Ashamed by setting things on fire, Edgar shuts himself away from the world.
But Ava decides to surprise the dragon with a Christmas pudding, luckily Edgar’s skills come in handy as he sets it alight as they all prepare for dinner.
The theme for the John Lewis Christmas advert this year is bringing people together with thoughtful gifts.
As per John Lewis tradition, the television campaign is soundtracked by a pop song covered by a different artist.
This year the track is a version of the REO Speedwagon track Can’t Fight This Feeling which been covered by Dan Smith from the band Bastille and plays over the ad.
