After Germany, Spain, France, Italy or Denmark, Netflix unveiled this Friday, January 31st, in his series of Norwegian Ragnarok. The opportunity to dive into the norse mythology. PRBK was able to see 5 of the 6 episodes. Then, one mate or it zaps ? Here is our opinion.
No time to get bored on Netflix ! After The Witcher and You, unveiled during the Christmas vacation, the platform continues to unveil new seasons and series since the beginning of the month of January. If you have already finished season 2 of Sex Education and the 3rd season of the New adventures of Sabrina, here is a new series that might appeal to you : Ragnarok.

THE PITCH
In norse mythology, “Ragnarok” means the end of the world and the final battle between the Gods and the Giants. Magne, his brother Laurits and their mother are back at Edda, a small town in Norway that they left years before after the death of their father. Shortly after their arrival in town, Magne begins to exhibit strange powers.

TOWARDS THE END OF THE WORLD
With its series of european, Netflix us entertained and sometimes surprised. If none of them can arrive at the ankle of the Casa de Papel in terms of success, there’s something for all tastes : fantasy series how end of the world with The Rain, the series without decision-head with the Elite or, on the contrary, the series that you return the brain with Dark. And Ragnarok then ? In its synopsis, the platform suggested that the show Norwegian would see a group of teens do in the face of astonishing changes in the climate that heralded the end of the world. Except that this is not what we saw !
If we could expect a complex series that could explore the nordic mythology and as well give us a few lessons on this topic, this is unfortunately not the case. Because, as suggested by the trailer, the series is primarily aimed at a teen audience. So yes, there are powers, good guys and bad guys. But rather than starting at the bottom in the subject (and therefore in the mythology), Ragnarok remains on the surface, its first episodes seeming to serve as a long introduction to his universe.
The series is centered on Magne, a high school student with dyslexia and not necessarily popular. Upon his return to the Edda, the city of his childhood, he will discover amazing powers… and be threatened by one of the most powerful families of the city. But the problems of teenagers – and in particular the problems of the heart – take fast the not on the side “mythology”. We assure you, it has not been as much bored in front of the episodes. Although it has not been passionate about our viewing, it looked pretty easy these first 5 episodes of Ragnarok.
In short : Ragnarok is not a total disappointment nor a success. It is a pity that the mythology is not explored but its side-series “teen” assumed does the job. It would take even more to hold our attention.
