Gone Girl’ actor Lisa Banes dies 10 days after hit-and-run
LISA Banes died after a hit-and-run scooter left her with “brain injury” – tributes have started to pour in to react to the actress’ tragic death.
She is best known for starring in the films Cocktail, Pumpkin, Freedom Writers, Gone Girl, and A Cure for Wellness.
On Monday night, news broke that the actress had died after she was “wiped out” by a motorized scooter on June 4.
She was just 65 years old.
Many fans and celebrities took to social media early Tuesday to mourn her tragic death.
Seth MacFarlane, famous for creating Family Guy, tweeted: “I am deeply saddened at the news of Lisa Banes’ passing.
“We had the good fortune to work with her on The Orville this past year.
“Her stage presence, magnetism, skill and talent were matched only by her unwavering kindness and graciousness toward all of us. A tremendous loss…”
Friends of the star also mourned her loss publicly, with singer-songwriter Jill Sobule writing: “Just busted. Lisa Banes was magnificent, hilarious, and big-hearted – always helped me though the hard times.
“She was so beloved by so many.”
Jill had previously shared pics of them together, writing: “I’m thinking 24/7 about my pal, Lisa Banes, who is still in critical condition after being hit and run by a f***ing E-bike.”
Actress Harriett Harris also tweeted: “My darling, brilliant, and beautiful friend Lisa Banes was struck down by a hit and run driver last Friday evening. She is in critical condition.
“Her wonderful wife Kathryn Kranhold has asked for prayers. Please pray, send energy, light a candle for Lisa. We all love her so.”
On June 5, Lisa was left in critical condition with a “traumatic brain injury” after a scary hit-and-run crash in NYC.
Paramedics quickly rushed to the scene, where Lisa was on the ground with “severe head trauma,” according to the publication.
The outlet reported she was on her way to meet her wife, Kathryn, for a dinner party near the Lincoln Center when a red and black scooter hit her while “blowing through” a red light.
The driver then allegedly fled the scene – which took place at the crosswalk on West 64th and Amsterdam Avenue – and is currently being sought by police.
Since Lisa was inside the crosswalk, she “had the right of way,” law enforcement said.
In footage of the scene of the crime obtained by The Sun, NYPD officers can be seen taping up the intersection with caution tape.
The officers are also seen using measuring poles – presumably to accurately detect how far Lisa was flown into the air after being hit.
The TV and film star lived in Los Angeles but was visiting New York City for the first time since the pandemic.
Sadly, after a week of uncertainty, Lisa passed away from her injuries.
Her representative told ET on Monday: “We’re are heartsick over Lisa’s tragic and senseless passing.
“She was a woman of great spirit, kindness, and generosity and dedicated to her work, whether on stage or in front of a camera and even more so to her wife, family and friends.
“We were blessed to have had her in our lives.”
Lisa has had a movie and television career which has gone one for decades.
Her first acting credit was playing the mom in 1984’s The Hotel New Hampshire starring Rob Lowe and Jodie Foster.
In the years since, her career has stayed active with roles on major TV shows such as Nashville, Masters Of Sex, Royal Pains and The Orville.
Lisa acted alongside Ben Affleck for most of the film – who played the character of the husband in the missing spouse thriller.
She also played Tom Cruise’s older love interest in the 1988 flick, Cocktail.
