Adele’s new music is coming, but don’t expect all sad ballads, The Sun is reporting. A source told the outlet that there’s an upbeat breakup song coming this time, inspired by Adele’s own split from her longtime partner Simon Konecki this April.
“The song is upbeat and is all about Adele’s relationship with her ex-husband Simon,” a music industry source told the outlet. “But it’s optimistic, reflective of the good times and about learning to move on from them and make new memories by yourself. It has been cathartic for her to put her feelings into her music. Fans can expect to hear personal details on her album.”
Adele hasn’t said anything personally about her and Konecki’s breakup. The singer filed for divorce last week. Her rep said at the time of the split announcement that “Adele and her partner have separated. They are committed to raising their son [Angelo, who’s six years old] together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”
E! was told by a source that Adele and Konecki intend to keep their split amicable. They ultimately just drifted apart over their seven years together.
“They had a lot in common early on, but eventually they just grew apart,” E!’s source said. “She became a bigger and bigger star, and he was okay [with] being in the background, but as she got bigger and had massive tours and intense schedules, they just grew apart.”
“Their marriage was clearly working for a very long time,” E!’s insider continued. “Whenever she was out at big openings and special events, he was usually with her, and they looked really just happy together and in love. They were into the marriage pretty much until they decided this just isn’t working anymore.”
People first reported that Adele would be releasing new music soon earlier this month. “She is definitely getting ready both mentally and physically to promote new music. It seems it will happen later this year,” a source close to Adele told the outlet. “She talks about last year as a very difficult year, and she’s said in the past that creating new music is almost like therapy. You can tell that she is ready to share with her fans.”
