While promoting her new movie Mickey and the Bear, Camila Morrone opened up about the 23 year age gap between her and boyfriend Leonardo DiCaprio.

The 22 year old actress spoke with The Los Angeles Times, where she was asked about her relationship with the 45 year old DiCaprio, who have been dating since late 2017.

While many thought her July Instagram snap of Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart (who had a 25 year age gap) was a clap back at haters of her relationship, she insisted it was just because she loves ‘classic Hollywood’ though she admits people judging her relationship does bother her.

‘There’s so many relationships in Hollywood — and in the history of the world — where people have large age gaps,’ Morrone said. ‘I just think anyone should be able to date who they want to date.’

The actress did concede that she understands why her relationship has garnered the interest of so many, adding, ‘I probably would be curious about it too.’

Still, she hopes that as her career as an actress will continue to grow to a point where she isn’t only mentioned as Leonardo DiCaprio’s boyfriend.

‘I think more and more now that people are seeing the film, I’m slowly getting an identity outside of that,’ she said.

Morrone added that it’s still ‘frustrating’ because she felt people should always have, ‘an identity besides who you’re dating.’

‘I understand the association, but I’m confident that will continue to slip away and be less of a conversation,’ Morrone added.

Morrone grew up in Beverly Hills, the daughter of an Italian male supermodel and an Argentine actress, but she never wanted to be an actress.

She started modeling as a teenager and moved to New York City to further her career, but she said she didn’t love it because she was pressured to lose weight and forced to, ‘network with these people and sell a part of my soul to them.’

Morrone landed roles as Bruce Willis’ daughter in Death Wish and as one of the two lead roles (with Maia Mitchell) in Never Goin Back, which lead to her quitting modeling for good.

Morrone has been winning rave reviews for her performance in Mickey and the Bear, where she plays teenager Mickey Peck, who is trying to keep her household together while taking care of her addict father (James Badge Dale).

Deadline also reported in November that Morrone has landed a lead role in the Amazon series Daisy Jones & The Six.

Morrone will star alongside Riley Keough in this adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel following a fictional rock band’s rise to fame in 1970s Los Angeles.
