Charles Grodin, Star Of ‘Beethoven’ And ‘Midnight Run,’ Has Died At 86

CHARLES Grodin died after battling bone marrow cancer at the age of 86.

Grodin, who starred in movies such as Beethoven died Tuesday in his home in Connecticut.

What movies did Charles Grodin star in?

One of Grodin’s first roles was in Rosemary’s Baby, where he played an obstetrician.

In the film, his character was the one who betrayed Mia Farrow’s Rosemary over to the witches.

In 1972, he starred in popular film The Heartbreak Kid, where he played a salesman at a sporting goods store.

In the film, his character was the one who gets married, but then almost immediately loses interest in his wife and falls in love with another woman on his honeymoon.

Perhaps most famously, Grodin starred as the father in the beloved movie Beethoven.

In the film, his character initially is against their family dog before eventually warming up and rescuing the dog.

In the 1970’s, Grodin also had roles in movies such as Catch-22, 11 Harrowhouse, King Kong and Heaven Can Wait.

In the 1980’s, Grodin worked in films such as The Incredible Shrinking Woman, Seems Like Old Times and Midnight Run.

In the 1990’s Grodin had a lead in the second Beethoven movie, as well as parts in other family friendly films such as Heart and Souls and It Runs in the Family.

In the 2000’s, Grodin was on a hiatus from film making, only returning in 2006 to appear in The Ex.

Grodin saw a bit of a career resurgence in the 2010’s landing roles in movies such as The Humbling and While We’re Young.

He was last seen in 2017, where he played Arthur in An Imperfect Murder.

Did Charles Grodin have children?

During his life he had two kids, one biologically, his daughter Marion, who went on to become a stand-up comedian.

His other child, his son Nicholas, is from his second marriage to Elissa Durwood.

Grodin married Durwood in 1983, and they had remained together until his death from Bone Marrow Cancer, 38 years together.

Alongside his tremendous film career, Grodin was also an amazing author with a column with the New York Daily News for nearly a decade and wrote several books.
