Demi Lovato on Selena Gomez: ‘I’m not friends with her’
Demi Lovato just openly admitted to not being friends with Selena Gomez anymore, despite being BFFs once upon a time. Alexa, play ‘Savage’ by Megan Thee Stallion.
Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato have gained titles as two of the straightest talkers in the music industry, thanks to being open and honest about everything from their mental health to body image. The pair appeared on Disney’s Barney & Friends together way back in 2002, when they were both just 10 years old, and have been close over the years.
And while Selena opened up about feeling “out of control” early on in her career yesterday, Demi spoke to Harper’s Bazaar about the fact that the Disney stars are actually no longer pals.
“When you grow up with somebody, you’re always going to have love for them,” she explained. “But I’m not friends with her, so it felt … I will always have love for her, and I wish everybody nothing but the best.”
The admission comes as Selena publicly supported Demi in January, following Demi’s emotional performance of ‘Anyone’ at the GRAMMYs this year.
Demi reportedly wrote and recorded the single just four days before her near-fatal overdose in 2018, according to TMZ. She was visibly emotional during the performance, and received a standing ovation and a lot of tears from the crowd.
Selena shared a screengrab of the performance on her Instagram stories, captioning it: “I wish there were words to describe how beautiful, inspirational and DESERVED this moment was. Demi I’m so happy for you. Thank you for your courage and bravery.”
What caused these two to grow apart remains to be seen, but here’s to hoping they’re both happy and healthy.
