Having a ball! US soccer team stars Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger wow in tux and stunning white gown as they marry in ‘Mediterranean castle’ Miami ceremony
Soccer stars Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger have married in a Miami, Florida ceremony with Orlando Pride player Harris calling it ‘the most magical day of my life’.
They exchanged rings by Great Heights, selected because they ‘share the same vision and support surrounding equality and LGBTQ marriage rights’. Krieger told People.
Following their nuptials, the happy couple cut a layer cake to reveal a rainbow sponge with Harris joking to Instagram followers that she can now eat carbs.
Harris, 34, wore a custom Thom Browne black silk faille tuxedo with an organza and beaded overlay in an argyle pattern and Umbro socks pulled high to wed her teammate, 35, who said ‘I do’ at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens wearing a deep-V back white gown by Pronovias.

‘Thom Browne dresses the Barcelona soccer team, and that’s kind of how I first started seeing his stuff,’ Ashlyn told Vogue. ‘I had purchased a few different items, and I researched his background and found out that he was an athlete. He was a swimmer and part of the LGBTQ community and an American-based designer—all of the things that I look for when wearing clothes.
‘Honestly, I loved that it was very gender neutral, very fluid, there were women in dresses and men in dresses, and men and women in skirts. I can really feel how he expresses himself through clothes, it’s just so non-conforming and so far out, and I’ve been wearing his stuff ever since.’
Harris said she had no idea what her wife’s gown would look like despite the mothers of the brides and bridesmaids wearing Pronovias too.
Singer Kina Grannis performed at the ceremony set inside formal gardens and surrounded by Italian Renaissance architecture.
The US National Team athletes selected the location as they were determined to keep their day authentic.
‘I think weddings can look super cheesy,’ Ashlyn told Vogue. ‘Sometimes I feel like stuff is just thrown everywhere to make it white and there’s things hanging, and flowers everywhere—it gives me a little anxiety.’
‘There’s not much you need to add to it. There’s so much beauty in and of itself, and it’s right on the water, so it was a fit for us.’

Krieger told People they fell in love with the venue instantly.
‘It was this kind of Mediterranean castle-like vibe right on the water, this European-type vibe that we were going for,’ she said. ‘Right when we walked in we were like, “Oh my God. We love this and everyone else was going to love this and this is just … This is it.” ‘
Harris added: ‘I think the biggest thing for Ali and I was creating an environment where it was a very classic and clean and modern and just really sharp and almost in a magical way that’s kind of what our vision was from the very beginning.
‘So right off the bat, we excluded anything rustic, anything barn door, anything that had that kind of aesthetic. And I think that for me personally, the venue was the most important thing.’
