‘It’s a boob!’: Comedian Whitney Cummings said pot led to Instagram nip slip earlier this year
Actress and comedian Whitney Cummings said a little pot was behind an Instagram story she posted in April that included an unexpected guest appearance from one of her exposed nipples. Cummings quickly removed the story, she told The Kelly Clarkson Show, but not before some shady social media denizens took a screenshot of the image and tried to extort her for it.
“It wasn’t that bad,” People reported of the attempted shakedown. “It was actually my own fault. I was doing Instagram Stories one night and weed is now legal in California, which is not a good mix. I had done (a story) and it kind of slipped a little bit.”
Cummings, who decided to share the photo herself to eliminate the blackmail threat, said she was mostly bothered it wasn’t a better image of her naked body.
“I just took the bargaining chip off the table,” she said. “It was the only thing I knew how to do. It’s a boob! I was like, I’m not giving you my money, I’ve worked too hard. I paid good money (for my boobs)! I’m proud of them,” she quipped.
“There are better nude photos of me. I’m in the bathtub. I look like I’m having a home birth,” she added.
Cummings also shared a screengrab of the blackmail threat that was sent to her, but left her harassers’ social media handles unknown in case they were just “dumb kids” doing dumb things. But she said she refused to let them have any power over her.
“When a woman in the public eye is extorted, we have to spend time, money and energy dealing with it, hiring lawyers and security experts, and living with a pit in our stomach about when and how we will be humiliated,” she said. “Y’all can have my nipple, but not my time or money anymore.”
Unfortunately, the blackmail threats have not stopped since then, although Cummings remains upbeat about the situation. “Now, I’m getting threatened with, ‘We have access to your iCloud.’” she said. “I’ll be honest, I stand by most of my nudes,” she added.
“Frankly I’m way more embarrassed by all the inspirational quotes I’ve screen-grabbed.”
Aren’t we all.
