Jennifer Lopez’s Summer ‘Isn’t Exactly What She Originally Planned’ but She’s ‘Making the Best of It’ (Source)

Jennifer Lopez is enjoying her East Coast summer.

As the star spends more time in the Hamptons, celebrating her birthday apart from Ben Affleck, a source tells PEOPLE, “Her summer isn’t exactly what she originally had planned, but she’s making the best of it. She’s always grateful for family time.”

Over the weekend, Lopez, who turns 55 on Wednesday, July 24, hosted a Bridgerton-themed birthday party, followed by an intimate birthday lunch with close friends and family the next day.

“She had a great weekend with family and friends,” says the source. “She loves entertaining and enjoyed her birthday bash. She was in a happy mood.”

Lopez’s summer was originally mapped out to look a lot different. For one, the star, who launched the Netflix movie Atlas to No. 1 on the streaming service in May, was scheduled to go on a This Is Me… Live concert tour, which would’ve taken her to Austin, Dallas, Las Vegas, Miami, Toronto, New York City, Boston and more.

When the cancellation announcement came, Live Nation said Lopez was “taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends.”

Lopez said in her own message at the time, “I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down. Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary. I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again. I love you all so much. Until next time.”

The singer and Affleck, 51, have been living separately in recent months, as sources have said the pair are going through marital strains, though they have not commented on it publicly. They recently marked their two-year wedding anniversary while on different coasts, with Affleck in Los Angeles.

As one insider said in June, Lopez and Affleck are “focused on their separate lives” this summer and they “don’t have any summer plans together.”
