Jon Voight Is A ‘Cool Grandpa’ And Loves Angelina Jolie’s ‘Involved’ Parenting Style
During a pre-Golden Globes gala, People had a nice chat with Jon Voight who gushed over his daughter Angelina Jolie’s relationship with her children.
Jolie and ex Brad Pitt share their well-known six children: Maddox, 18; Pax, 15; Zahara, 14; Shiloh, 13; and twins Knox and Vivienne, 11. What might not be as well known, is Jolie’s hands-on parenting style.
Voight, who has won four Golden Globes, appreciates that each of his grandchildren is unique. He shares that: “They all have something special, and what you want to do is provide them with the tools to express that.” He boasts that Jolie is great at supporting each of their individual interests.
The famous father-daughter duo didn’t always have the best relationship and were estranged for almost seven years. Pitt convinced Jolie to mend the relationship with her father and they’ve been on good terms since 2010.
During the interview, Voight expressed his support for Pitt, congratulating him for his nomination for “Best Performance By An Actor In A Supporting Role” for “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood”, saying: “I am proud of Brad, and that was a very unusual movie, and a very successful one, a very dynamic movie.”
The feeling of admiration is seeming to flow both ways. Jolie recently sat down with Harper’s Bazaar and shared her appreciation for her father’s grandparenting style. Jolie expressed that her children “have been through a lot” and “he’s [Voight] been very good at understanding they needed their grandfather at this time.”
Jolie added, “He knows kind of the rule — don’t make them play with you. Just be a cool grandpa who’s creative, and hang out and tell stories and read a book in the library.”
Jolie also expressed her love and appreciation for her children, and expressed, “I learn from their strength. As parents, encourage our kids to embrace all that they are, and all that they know in their hearts to be right, and they look back at us and want the same for us.”
