Karlsson introduces newborn girl: ‘Finally our little rainbow arrived’
Former Ottawa Senators star Erik Karlsson announced on Twitter Thursday that his wife, Melinda Karlsson, had given birth to a girl.
The current San Jose Sharks blue-liner was drafted by the Senators in 2008 and played for the team up until he was traded in 2018, being named captain in 2014.
Karlsson made the announcement on Twitter around 9:20 p.m. that Melinda had given birth.
“To my beautiful wife for doing everything in her power to bring our beautiful little baby girl in to this world, never have I met a more determined or stronger person than you,” Karlsson wrote on Instagram. “It hasn’t been easy but after the rain finally our little rainbow arrived. Love you both more than I could ever imagine.”
The new member of the family is Harlow Rain Karlsson, according to an NHL.com online story Thursday night.
On Wednesday, it had been announced that Karlsson would miss the Sharks’ season opener in Las Vegas due to personal reasons.
A day later, the reasons became clear with Karlsson’s announcement. Messages of congratulations poured in on Twitter. Teammates Brent Burns and Timo Meier, along with former Senators teammate Marc Methot, were among the first from the NHL family to send their congratulations on Instagram.
“Yes buddy!!!! Congrats to you both,” Methot, Karlsson’s former defence partner in Ottawa, commented.
The journey hasn’t been easy for the couple who experienced tragedy in March 2018 when Melinda gave birth to their stillborn son, Axel.
The couple issued a painful public statement.
“We feel very lucky to be Axel’s parents. Even though he was stillborn, we know we will hold him again one day under different circumstances and the joy he gave us will be with us forever,” Karlsson and Melinda wrote in the statement, released along with a photo of the baby’s footprints, his name and date of birth — March 19, 2018.
