Kid Cudi releases final album in Man on the Moon trilogy
Kid Cudi is blasting off back to space.
On Thursday night, the rapper released Man on the Moon III: The Chosen, his seventh album and the final installment of his Man on the Moon trilogy.
The 18-track collection includes songs featuring Phoebe Bridgers, Trippie Redd, Skepta, and the late Pop Smoke. It also boasts production from past collaborators Plain Pat, Emile Haynie, Mike Dean, Dot da Genius, and Take a Daytrip.
The rapper, born Scott Mescudi, previously teased the concept behind the album, which comes 11 years after the first Man on the Moon collection and 10 after the second in the trilogy.
“In the last 10 years, Scott Mescudi has been through hell and back. After feeling like his world was over, he found hope and overcame the darkness that was plaguing his life,” a description read. “But happiness isn’t forever. What he thought was peace turns into a nightmare. He finds himself lost dealing with the same pain he had not felt in years. In one night, he must face himself and fight to win back his soul from the evil Mr. Rager.”
The new project is also Cudi’s first solo album since 2016, when he released Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’. He also collaborated with Kanye West for Kids See Ghosts in 2018.
This April, the Cleveland native dropped his first solo track in four years, “Leader of the Delinquents” off another forthcoming album, Entergalactic. He then linked up with Travis Scott for the single “The Scotts” and followed that up with “The Adventures of Moon Man & Slim Shady” with Eminem in July.
The multihyphenate, who was most recently seen in HBO’s We Are Who We Are, also has a slew of projects for the screen coming up. Cudi will be developing and starring in an adaptation of the novel Real Life from Bron Studios. He’s also partnering with black-ish‘sKenya Barris to develop an adult animated music series based on Entergalactic for Netflix.
