Princess Beatrice’s Fiancé, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Is Spending Christmas with the Royals
The queen has broken royal protocol again, much like she did for Meghan Markle.
According to a new report, Princess Beatrice’s fiancé will be joining the royal family for Christmas at Sandringham this year.
While the queen didn’t previously allow unmarried partners to join the family for the festive season, the monarch first broke the rules for Meghan Markle in 2017. Before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex got married in May 2018, the queen allowed Meghan to join the royals for Christmas. And according to the Daily Mail, Queen Elizabeth has extended a Christmas invitation to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
While Princess Beatrice is set to get married in 2020, the queen has apparently broken protocol and decided to allow Mozzi to join the royals for the holiday in 2019.
The move is somewhat unusual, especially considering the fact that when Prince William got engaged to Kate Middleton in 2010, his beau was not invited to Christmas dinner. Daily Mail‘s royal correspondent, Rebecca English, noted, “The gesture is also a sign of how the 93-year-old royal is moving with the times.”
Back in 2017, when Meghan joined the royals for Christmas, a source told Us Weekly, “Attending as a fiancée is a first for the family.” The source continued, “Given that Meghan doesn’t have family in the U.K., it’s only right that she spends Christmas with Harry and his.” Similarly, a Sandringham source told the Daily Mail, “Beatrice and Edo arrived last night. It’s clear that Her Majesty wants to support her granddaughter… everyone feels Beatrice deserves to be happy.”
