‘Scarface’ actor Geno Silva dead at 72
Geno Silva, an accomplished actor who famously played the assassin who kills Tony Montana in “Scarface,” has died.
He was 72.
Silva’s family said the actor died from complications of a type of dementia, frontotemporal degeneration, on May 9 at his Los Angeles home, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Born in Albuquerque, N.M., Silva was a character actor who appeared in more than 60 film and TV roles.
He began his on-screen career during the mid-1970s and appeared in notable movies including 1981′s “Zoot Suit,” 1988′s “Tequila Sunrise,” and in the second movie in the “Jurassic Park” franchise, “The Lost World,” which was directed by Steven Spielberg and premiered in 1997.
Later in ’97, Silva appeared in another Spielberg-directed movie with the drama “Amistad.”
Silva’s TV credits, meanwhile, included roles on “How the West Was Won,” “Days of Our Lives” and “Star Trek: Enterprise.”
His most prominent performance came in the timeless “Scarface” (1983), in which his character, known as The Skull, doesn’t utter a word before or after he fatally gunned down Al Pacino’s Tony Montana.
Silva — who is survived by his wife, Pamela, daughter, Lucia, and a pair of grandchildren — last appeared on-screen in the 2007 comedy flick “Tortilla Heaven” and on an episode of the drama series “Cane” that same year.
