Shia LaBeouf has recently made his most personal film yet with the autobiographical Honey Boy.

The actor previously revealed that he wrote the screenplay while in court-ordered rehab after a 2017 arrest.

At Sunday’s Hollywood Film Awards, he thanked the police officer who booked him for public drunkenness.

The 33-year-old cut a dapper look in a grey double-breasted tweed suit over a grey and white striped dress shirt, buttoned to the top.

He was presented with the Hollywood Breakthrough Screenwriter Award by Robert Downey Jr. 

LaBeouf gave the shout-out as he accepted his award for the film, which premieres November 8.

He said during his speech, according to USA Today: ‘I want to thank the police officer who arrested me in Georgia…

He then went on to thank ‘my therapist and my sponsor for saving my life’ and ‘my parents for giving my life.’

LaBeouf was accompanied by his mother Shayna Saide, who tearfully watched from the audience.

He plays his own dad in Honey Boy, which tells the story of how his childhood as a Disney star affected his mental health and his relationship with his father.

He wrote the script as part of his rehabilitation program, following his arrest in Savannah, where he was filming The Peanut Butter Falcon.  

While dealing with his alcoholism, he also came to terms with his post-traumatic stress disorder, which he learned was an underlying issue.

He recently said during The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast: ‘It was the first time I’d been told I had PSTD. I just thought I was an alcoholic, like, a true-blue drunk and I needed to deal with that. 

‘I knew it was an issue but didn’t know there was this extra whole other thing that was hindering my ability to have any peace in my life and my ability to deal with people.’
