Zac Efron Parties in Venice 1 Month After Hospitalization for Swimming Pool Incident in Ibiza

Zac Efron stepped out in style for his first public appearance since he was hospitalized following a swimming pool incident in Ibiza.

The actor, 36, was photographed attending the amfAR Gala during the 81st Venice International Film Festival on Sunday, Sept. 1, one month after the incident in Spain.

Efron sported an all-black look for the glitzy event, wearing a black blazer over a matching T-shirt and pants, along with black sunglasses.

Other stars in attendance at the amfAR Gala included Richard Gere and his wife Alejandra Silva, who posed for a smiling snap with Efron. The trio were also pictured engaging in conversation at the Gala, where Gere, 75, received amfAR’s Award of Inspiration.

Antonio Banderas and film producer Mohammed Al Turki were also honored during the evening, which was hosted by Kate Beckinsale and included performances by Kelly Rowland and Rumer Willis.

Efron’s night out came after his rep confirmed to PEOPLE that while he was staying at a villa in Ibiza he suffered a “minor swimming incident” on Aug. 2.

He was then taken to the hospital for precautionary measures and was released the next morning.

On Aug. 5, a source confirmed to PEOPLE that the A Family Affair star ingested water into his lungs after hitting the bottom of the pool during a dive.

The insider added that Efron was pulled out of the water by security at the villa after showing signs of distress. He was then taken to the hospital out of caution due to being dazed momentarily.

After X-rays were done to make sure no water remained in his lungs, he was released from the hospital.

Confirming he was on the mend, Efron wrote alongside a picture of himself lifting weights on Aug. 4, “Happy and healthy. Thanks for the well wishes.”
