Baby Dior Factory Reopened To Produce Masks During COVID-19 Crisis
Baby Dior has reopened its factory to help with the production of masks for those people who provide essential services during the COVID-19 crisis. This is part of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s plan to provide masks to health care professionals. The company took to Instagram to announce that their Baby Dior factory in Redon has begun the production of masks as of March 31 on a volunteer basis. It continued to say that Dior was committed to helping and protecting those professionals who are always at the forefront.
Most French manufacturers stopped their operations after the country enforced a lockdown a couple of weeks ago in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus. French President Emmanuel Macron visited the country’s largest mask production company on March 31. He said that France should be able to make 10 million masks weekly by the end of April, which would be three times more than the previous production. He also hoped that France would be self-reliant by the end of the year.
According to WWD.com, France has called upon textile and fashion companies to assist in making masks and urged the cosmetics industries to help in making hydroalcoholic sanitizer. LVMH promised to get 40 million masks from a Chinese distributor to supplement the shortage in hospitals. Moreover, LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault ordered the LVMH perfume business to produce hydroalcoholic sanitizer to be given to public authorities. He said that hydroalcoholic sanitizer would be donated to the French health care sector to be distributed to French public hospitals.
The initiative is meant to address the shortage of masks and hydroalcoholic gel in France and to help French citizens in protecting themselves against the spread of coronavirus. LVMH has promised to provide these services for as long as they’re still needed and with the help of French health care authorities. Kering has also offered its support by importing 3 million surgical masks from China to be given to the French health care authorities so that they can distribute them to people in need. It has also instructed its Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent brands to make some masks to address the shortage.
