10 Guilt-Free April Fools’ Day Pranks To Play On Your Kids
April Fools’ Day is right around the corner and there is plenty of kid-friendly fun to be had as parents. Remember the days of a Whoopee cushion under the chairs and fake dog poo on the pillow? Well, here are some great ways to take these traditional jokes up a notch and still be super funny to you and your kids.
With little supplies and lots of imagination, make this April Fools’ Day the best yet with these 10 great pranks.
1. Try A Dessert Switcheroo:
Fake dessert tricks are always good fun with the kids. This particular one takes the laughter to the next level by presenting kids with a delicious looking mashed potato sundae. To do this, simply whip up the mashed potatoes, pour some gravy, top with a pepper, and put it all in a fancy glass. A word of warning though, your kids will only find this April Fools’ Day prank funny if you immediately follow it up with a sundae of the ice cream variety.
2. Put Googly Eyes On Everything In The Fridge:
Ever since we first saw googly eyes show up on library books, the trend has introduced us to endless hilarious possibilities. These sticky eyes have never failed to bring a smile to the faces of kids and adults alike, making them the perfect April Fools’ Day prank. On the eve of April the 1st, once the kids are in bed, of course, put these little eyes on everything in the fridge. When the kids wake up and go to get milk for their cereal, they will be delighted to see what’s looking back at them.
3. Treat Them To A Tray Of Brown E’s:
Try this funny play on words to trick your kids into thinking there is a hot tray of brownies waiting in the kitchen for them. However, instead of the gooey chocolate treat, they will discover a dish full of the letter “E” cut from brown paper. Again, this trick is best done when real brownies are waiting in the wings to promote laughter and limit tears!
4. Freeze Their Cereal:
Kick the April Fools’ Day fun off to an early start with this trick of freezing your kids cereal. Not only will the children find it amusing when they go to eat the now block of ice, they will also enjoy playing with it.
5. Switch Beds:
While the kids are sleeping, switch them into each other’s beds. If you can pull this off without waking them up in the process, it makes for a really amazing, albeit confusing, start to April Fools’ Day!
6. Put A Giant Fake Bug In Their Lamp:
Bug-a-philes and bug-a-phobic kids alike will love this trick that makes a cutout bug look exactly like the real thing. To do this trick, grab a sheet of dark paper, some tape, scissors, and your creative juices and cut the biggest and most scary bug you can. Tape it to the inside of your child’s lamp and turn it on. Voila! You now have an authentic looking creature hanging out in your kid’s room!
7. Use The “Text Replacement” Feature On Their Phones:
This one is a bit more challenging as it requires getting your hands on your child’s phone without them noticing. If you can manage this tremendous feat, go to Settings>General>Keyboard and find “Text Replacement.” Once there, you can change the words they commonly type into whatever you want. You can do this to as many words as you want as well. Get creative and have some fun with it then enjoy them squirming when trying to text their friends!
8. Make Your Child’s Floordrobe A Ceiling-Drobe:
Have a child that is terrible about putting their clothes away? Use April Fools’ Day as a fun way to teach them not to leave their clothes out where the parents can get to them. To do this trick, grab all the clothes that are left out and hang them up on their bedroom ceiling. Not only will they find it amusing, they may even learn a lesson!
9. Make A Pop With Bubble Wrap Under The Rug
This trick is really easy and sure to bring a giggle to younger and older kids alike. Simply place some bubble wrap under a commonly used rug and have a good laugh when your child runs across it and is surprised by all the popping!
10. Get A “Visit” From Your Child’s Favorite Actor:
All you need for this wonderful prank is a printer and some tape. Get a photo of your child’s favorite actor or cartoon character and print it out as big as you can. Then, cut it out and paste it in the corner of your window. Tell your kids you heard someone outside and have them look out the window to see who it is!
