What’s Next For Disney Parks In 2020 And Beyond? Marvel Land, New Rides And More Updates

Disney Parks in the U.S. introduced not one, but two Star Wars lands in 2019. Despite these big new additions, it doesn’t appear the theme parks will be slowing down in 2020. See all of the new things park-goers can expect from Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, next year below.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida was the first to unveil the park’s newest “Star Wars” attraction earlier this month. While Rise of the  Resistance has been a smash success — sans breaking down on its opening day — California has yet to open the same attraction at Disneyland. This will all change on Jan. 17 when the West Coast park will reveal its own Rise of the Resistance ride to accompany the already existing Millenium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run attraction.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway:

Hollywood Studios will also be getting a new attraction to replace its previous The Great Movie Ride. Housed inside the park’s replica of the Grauman’s Chinese Theater, the 4D ride will make it debuts at the Orlando park on March 4. Disneyland will be getting the same attraction to its Toontown in 2022.

Space Restaurant:

Park guests can enjoy a meal in outer space when they visit Epcot in early 2020. Space 220, located in Epcot’s Mission: SPACE pavilion, is based on “a celestial panorama of a space station” that offers a view from 220 miles above Earth. The journey begins as guests will board a “special” elevator that brings them to the space station to begin their dining experience. Space 220 will be operated by the Patina Restaurant Group and is expected to open this winter.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure:

After thrilling park guests at Disneyland Paris, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will find a new home in Epcot. Coming in summer 2020, the World Showcase’s France pavillion will feature the attraction, based off the 2007’s animated movie “Ratatouille.” Disney Parks recently shared a first-look at the attraction on their blog.

“…this family-friendly attraction will invite you to shrink down to the scale of a rat for a culinary adventure with Chef Remy. You’ll race across Gusteau’s kitchen floor aboard special trackless ride vehicles,” reads the post. You can see a sneak peek inside the ride here.

New Epcot Shows:

After a shot run of “Epcot Forever,” the WDW park will unveil its new “HarmonioUS” nighttime spectacular in 2020. “It will celebrate how the music of Disney inspires people the world over, carrying you away harmoniously on a stream of familiar Disney tunes reinterpreted by a diverse group of artists from around the globe,” Disney teased in a press announcement. Like the park’s previous nighttime shows, “HarmonioUS” will feature floating set pieces, lights, pyrotechnics, lasers and more.

The park will also debut a new “Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along” inside its France pavillion to accompany the already-existing Impressions de France film. The singalong, directed by Don Hahn, debuts in January 2020 as part of Epcot International Festival of the Arts. Other films being released at the park in the new year include “Awesome Planet” in the Land, “Canada Far and Wide in Circle-Vision 360” in the Canada pavillion, and “Wondrous China” in the China pavilion.

Marvel Land:

Disney’s California Adventure rethemed its “Tower of Terror” attraction to “Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout” in 2017, and now, Marvel fans will have even more to enjoy at the West Coast park come 2020 thanks to its Avengers Campus.

First up to join the new area will be a Spider-Man attraction, according to The Orange County Register. Marvel has shared that the ride will give guests the ability to “shoot their own webs out of their wrists via immersive technology” while helping Spider-Man “try and catch ‘spider-bots’ that needs to be web’ed-up.”

A show based on Doctor Strange, an Ant-Man and the Wasp restaurant, and Marvel character meet-and-greets are reported to follow as part of phase one.

Snow White’s Scary Adventures Rehab:

This classic dark ride will be getting an overhaul in 2020. The Disneyland attraction will be getting a $445,000 “facelift” according to The OC Register, citing city records last month. The ride will see replaced and removed show sets, props, and scenes as well as other structural upgrades.
