Warning: Spoilers ahead!

“I thought this would be, like, a night I would remember forever,” newbie Natalie, Nate Jacob’s date at the winter formal, said towards the end of the Euphoria season one finale. On Sunday night, August 4, we said goodbye to our Euphoria faves indefinitely (Euphoria was picked up for a second season), but not before a very emotional and chaotic high school dance left fans at home picking up their jaws off the floor.

The episode begins with Jules and Rue getting ready for the winter formal. Jules encourages Rue to switch up her signature look—hoodies and sneakers—which Jules likens to Seth Rogen but in a “cute” way—and Rue is visibly uncomfortable by Jules’ statement. By the end of the episode, HBO delivers a gut-punch by revealing that Rue always dresses in a maroon hoodie because it belonged to her father, who died of cancer.

While the winter formal is the main focus of the episode, the show also throws in a slew of storylines in the mix leaving us with more questions than answers: Nate and Maddy’s toxic relationship; Cassie’s abortion and McKay’s absence; Nate battling his own demons, which leads a random exorcism fight between him and his father; Fez’s robbery gone awry; Kat taking a stab at love, all while a funeral-like speech recited by Rue’s mother gets spliced in between the episode causing many to question whether Rue is actually dead and has been narrating these events from beyond. Then, the finale ended with a new Zendaya song and accompanying video featuring dancers dressed in Rue’s maroon hoodie and dancing in the street “Thriller” style. Huh? HBO, how am I supposed to sleep until season two returns? Also, GIVE ZENDAYA ALL THE EMMY AWARDS.

Twitter was divided over the finale with many users reeling for answers to some of the cliffhangers HBO left us with. Here are some of the best Twitter reactions.
