Luke Bryan’s new N.J. beach concert leaves country fans with a heartbreaking choice

As a gargantuan country music fest approaches in Wildwood, how many more country music fans can New Jersey fit onto its beaches this summer?

Answer: At least 40,000.

Live Nation announced Monday that country star Luke Bryan will perform on the Atlantic City beach Aug. 22.

But you know who else is performing that same night in New Jersey and happens to tout a substantially overlapping fanbase? Fellow genre mega-star Kenny Chesney, who is set to play MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.

Local country fans are now left with what will surely be a heartbreaking decision for some: choose Mr. No Shoes Nation Chesney or say “That’s My Kind of Night” to Bryan.

Tickets to Bryan’s show go on sale 10 a.m. Friday at ticketmaster.com and if you’ve attended an A.C. beach show before, you already know it’s worth splurging for the higher-tier tickets. Due to the beach’s long-and-narrow dimensions, the cheap seats tend to stretch a good quarter-mile or farther down the sand, way out of stage sight (large HD screens still display the action). Past beach shows, like Pink’s epic performance in 2017, drew around 40,000 listeners.

Bryan is the second major artist to announce an Atlantic City beach show this summer: jam band legend Phish will take the stage for three nights, Aug. 14 to 16.

The Georgia hitmaker also joins a Jersey country lineup stacked further by the huge new Barefoot Country Music Fest coming to Wildwood June 19 to 21, featuring headliners Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton and Dan and Shay.

Then there’s the full Country Megaticket at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, which includes a summer-spanning lineup of Tim McGraw, Lady Antebellum, Thomas Rhett and more.
