Ashley Park Admits She Thought Brooklyn Was a ‘Stop on the Subway’ for a Full Year
The ‘Emily in Paris’ actress owned up to the hilarious confusion on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’
Ashley Park is willing to admit her faults — and New York City geography seems to be one of them.
During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Sept. 18, the Emily in Paris actress admitted to a pretty sizable mistake that she repeatedly made during the first year she lived in New York City.
Park, 33, said that season 1 of the Netflix series marked her first time in Paris, so she “did every Airbnb experience” and “discovered every part of that [city],” but when she returned to New York, she realized, “I haven’t discovered any of this city.”
Her lack of exploration went as far as a year-long confusion about what Brooklyn is.
“Everyone’s going to think I’m really out of it. I used to think — for the first year I lived here, I used to think Brooklyn was a stop on the subway. So like, you know, like 50th street,” she admitted. “I didn’t know it was a land mass.”
Seth Meyers then joked that Park “learned a little bit about [Brooklyn] then stopped again,” as she was shocked to hear him say that the borough could rank among the biggest cities in the U.S.
“I think I figured it out when a friend was like, ‘I live in Brooklyn.’ I said, ‘Oh my gosh, I know someone else who lives in Brooklyn! Like, do you know this person?’ Because I thought it was, like, a little neighborhood.”
As the clip ended, she told the audience, “I know things now, guys.”
Park is fresh off a lengthy press tour for the fourth season of Emily in Paris, where she plays the best friend and roommate, Mindy, of the titular character (Lily Collins).
This season brought about the actress’ biggest challenge yet in the role, as she had to perform topless for a scene in part 2 of season 4 where her character agrees to perform at an iconic Parisian cabaret known for its nude female dancers.
“It was so stressful and hard to do,” Park told PEOPLE. “If it had not been for the choreographer, Kyle Hanagami, coming in and my team around me, I don’t think I would’ve gotten through it.”
The actress said she’s “actually really proud now” looking back on the scene, where she dances topless to Britney Spears’ “Oops!… I Did It Again,” and said it’s a scene she “will never forget doing.”
