Kelly Ripa Rips Mark Consuelos for Getting Fit While She Was Pregnant: ‘I Gained 68 Lbs., He Turned into Hercules’
The couple shares sons Joaquin and Michael, as well as daughter Lola
When Kelly Ripa was pregnant, her husband Mark Consuelos spent his time hitting the gym.
On a Monday, Sept. 2 episode of Live with Kelly & Mark, the mom of three, 53, spoke about how when she was pregnant with their son Michael, now 27, her husband Consuelos, also 53, got into great shape — much to her annoyance.
“Let me tell you something. You want to know something really irritating? When I was pregnant, Mark decided he was going to join a gym and hire a trainer,” Ripa said on the show. “And the more pregnant I got, the fitter he got.”
“Because I had heard about all of these sympathetic, empathetic husbands that also get pregnant with their wives,” she continued. “And that the wives gain a bunch of weight, which I did, and the husbands gain it along with them and then they have fun taking it off together. He turned into Hercules.”
“Because you did it for both of us, baby. You gained the weight for both of us,” Consuelos joked.
Ripa responded that she “remember[ed] because I had gained 68 lbs. when I was pregnant with Michael,” adding that a news site had done an article with a headline about how it looked like she “had 7 babies in there.”
“He was a big kid!” Consuelos exclaimed of their older son.
“He was big, I will hand it to him. But still it was this thing where he said, ‘Here, you shouldn’t feel bad.’ And I go, ‘Did you read the part about her having 7 children?’ But he brought it in with his rippling muscles. He just came from the gym,” Ripa joked.
“Yeah…got to stay fit in case something happens,” Consuelos responded.
The couple shares sons Joaquin, 21, and Michael, as well as daughter Lola, 23.
Ripa and Consuelos celebrated their oldest child’s birthday this past summer, posting a joint Instagram tribute. The post featured a throwback reel of Michael through the years, set to the Curtis Mayfield song “Move on Up.”
The reel included photos and videos of Michael reaching milestones such as crawling and walking as a baby and trick-or-treating as a young boy, as well as footage from his past birthdays.
