Football club threatens legal action after fan gropes player’s breast
Mexican women’s champions Tigres UANL have threatened to sue and impose a lifetime stadium ban on a fan after he was snapped groping an American player’s breast.
The incident took place following the friendly between the current Liga MX Femenil champions Tigres and American side Houston Dash last Saturday.
Local media report that shortly after the match, Houston Dash midfielder Sofia Huerta, a Mexican-American footballer who has seven caps for the US women’s national team, went to greet the fans and take pictures with them.
In one picture with a male fan, who has not been identified, it shows how as Huerta was posing with the man, he allegedly intentionally touched her breast.
Fut Femenil’s (Women’s Football) social media page, which is dedicated to disseminating information about women’s football, made a post condemning the fan which included a picture that captured the moment.
The image shows the moment a male fan reached around the player until he was able to touch her breast with his left hand.
“Look at this guy’s hand over @schuerta (and no, it was not “by accident”) YOU DO NOT DO THAT!”
Tigres released made a statement on their social media page assuring they are “committed to eradicating any form of harassment or any situation that goes against someone’s dignity or intends to intimidate, degrade or offend women within our stadium and our community.”
The statement went on to say the club plan on “filing a lawsuit” and “asks our fans to collaborate to identify the possible aggressor” giving a Whatsapp number to contact.
Tigres said once the man is identified the “pseudo fan will be banned for life from any of our facilities for both female and male matches”.
No official statement from Sofia Huerta has been reported however in the same post made by Fut Feminil they said: “We saw and heard Sofia on the way to the dressing room and she seemed uncomfortable and upset”.
