Jimmy Fallon Gets Nailed By 50 Cupcakes in Honor of His 50th Birthday: Watch!
As the late-night host turned 50, he celebrated with the show’s crew, audience and a surprise guest
Jimmy Fallon celebrated his 50th anniversary with a cupcake fest!
During The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, Sept. 20, the late-night host read aloud a card from announcer Steve Higgins and The Roots, including band leader Questlove.
“Happy birthday to you,” Fallon read. “Dear Jimmy, we love you so much. In honor of your 50th birthday, we want to give you the ’50 cupcake salute.’ Please grab your goggles and jockstrap, and make your way to the floor.”
Standing in front of a balloon arch with a glittery table of cupcakes before him, Fallon made a show of putting on a blue and red jockstrap over his black suit — a move that elicited excited screams from a few audience members.
“I don’t know what’s about to go down. I don’t know what this is,” Fallon explained. “I think I might be ready. Does somebody want to explain what’s going on?”
Rapper and singer Black Thought read from a parchment scroll. “Jimmy Fallon, in recognition of the milestone of your 50th of birthdays on this 19th day of September, 20th in 24, we give you the ’50 cupcake salute,'” he said. “May the cupcakes commence!”
As the crew hurled cupcakes at Fallon, the late-night host raised his hands, turned around and covered his face laughing. “What is wrong with you?” he said. “Who got me in the head? Thank you very much. Thank you very much.”
Still, there was one more birthday surprise when Demi Lovato emerged carrying one last cupcake.
“You see, the thing is, that was only 49 cupcakes. Come here, Jimmy,” said Lovato, 32, before she smushed her cupcake on Fallon’s face and shouted, “Happy Birthday!”
A beaming Fallon embraced Lovato and thanked everyone for the (messy) birthday wishes.
Elsewhere during Thursday’s episode, Lovato presented Fallon, still covered in cupcake icing, with a Fudgie the Whale cake.
After making a wish and blowing out the candles, he called out the cake.
“A Fudgie the Whale!” he exclaimed. “That’s what I’m talking about. Demi, I love you.”
Hours before the episode aired, Fallon thanked fans while celebrating his milestone birthday, saying, “Today I am turning 50 years old.”
“I just want to say thank you for giving me this great life,” he shared on X (formerly Twitter). “I’m very lucky. I appreciate the applause, laughter, and support, whether it be at one of my shows, walking down the street, at a basketball game in France, or even stranded and lost in a Bavarian field.”
“I feel the love, and I love you back. Thank you for always supporting any new idea I have,” he added. “You believing in me makes me believe in me.”
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
