Anna Faris is speaking out after Mom creator Chuck Lorre took a surprising swipe at her in his new memoir, and her response is as gracious as it is honest.
The actress took to Instagram on Thursday, October 15, admitting that Lorre’s comments caught her off guard and that they hurt. Her reply opened with a single word: “Yikes.”
What Chuck Lorre Wrote
In his upcoming memoir, Sitcom, the prolific TV producer behind hits like The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men revisits the casting of Mom, the CBS comedy about a single mother navigating sobriety.
According to Deadline, Lorre wrote that he was initially reluctant to hire Faris as the show’s lead, citing vague concerns about her personal life, and drew a comparison to his well-known clash with Charlie Sheen. He went on to suggest that her eventual departure from the series proved his hesitation right, adding that the reasons she left were no mystery to anyone working on the show.
Anna’s Response: Hurt, but Grateful
Rather than firing back, Faris struck a thoughtful tone. She said she hadn’t expected the criticism and that it stung, but she also thanked Lorre for giving her a job she loved. She said she never took her seven seasons on the show for granted, that she is proud of the work they made together, and that she remains grateful to her castmates and crew.
Friends of the actress were less forgiving, publicly calling Lorre’s comments insulting.
A Personal Sobriety Milestone
Faris also used the moment to share a meaningful personal update: she has now been sober for about a year and a half. She reflected on the irony of starring in a show centered on recovery and later living that journey herself, and said she is now healthy, working and happier than she has been in a long time.
Earlier this year, the actress opened up about giving up alcohol, explaining that she quit drinking to stop sabotaging herself.
Her Time on ‘Mom’
Faris starred as Christy Plunkett opposite Allison Janney when Mom premiered on CBS in 2013. She surprised fans by exiting in 2020, after the show’s seventh season, saying at the time that she wanted to pursue new opportunities. The series continued for one final season without her and ended in 2021. She did not return for the finale.
After stepping back from the spotlight following her exit, Faris has returned to more regular acting work this year, proving that her next chapter is very much underway.
