Today show meteorologist Dylan Dreyer is starting a new chapter. Dreyer, 45, confirmed her divorce from Brian Fichera is final, more than a year after the couple announced they had split.
Dreyer shared the news on the October 15 episode of her podcast, The Parent Chat, as first reported by TV Insider. While talking about her home life, she called herself “recently divorced” and said her mother, Linda Bullington, has been staying with her for months at a time to help with her three sons: Calvin, 9, Oliver, 6, and Russell, 4.
A New Kind of Household
Dreyer told listeners she never expected to share a house with her mom again. Now she depends on her. Linda, who is retired and lives far away, splits her time between her own home and her daughter’s. She helps with backpacks, lunchboxes and school runs.
The two have settled into a routine. Dreyer focuses on the boys when they come home from school, and her mom takes care of the mess. Dreyer said the arrangement has brought them closer. She also said she doesn’t know what she would do without her mother.
Linda joined the episode too. She said she loves being there but finds the long trips back and forth hard, and she gently noted that her daughter sometimes takes on too much.
From Separation to Divorce
Dreyer and Fichera married in 2012. In July 2025 she announced on Instagram that they had quietly separated months earlier. She promised the two would stay close friends and co-parent their boys with love and respect. Reports in March said she had filed for divorce.
Since then, Dreyer has said the relationship got easier after the split. In a June interview with Parents, she said that once the problems in their marriage were gone, there was little left for them to fight about. She also challenged the old idea of staying together for the kids. In her view, her boys are better off seeing two happier parents who still come together to support them.
Dreyer also moved out of New York City to the suburbs with her sons last year. With her mom by her side, she now seems to be fully settled into life after divorce.
Our Take: A Refreshingly Honest Look at Life After Divorce
Celebrity divorce stories usually stop at the headline. What stands out here is that Dreyer skipped the polished version. She didn’t present her mom’s long stays as a perfect fix. She talked openly about how much she relies on her, and she let her mother say on air that she sometimes takes on too much. That is a far more relatable picture of single parenting than the “thriving and unbothered” posts we usually see.
Her point about not staying together “for the kids” is also worth noting. Many parenting experts share the view that children are hurt more by constant conflict at home than by a calm, cooperative separation. Hearing a familiar morning-TV face say it plainly may help other parents who are quietly weighing the same decision.
The bigger takeaway for working moms: the “village” is real, and sometimes it is your own mother living in the guest room for months at a time. Leaning on that help is not a failure. If anything, Dreyer makes the case that it is what makes a hard season work.
You can watch Dylan Dreyer weekday mornings on NBC’s Today.
