Deadpool & Wolverine‘s playful dialogue includes a cheeky nod to Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck‘s divorce.
The Alias alum, who announced her split from the Argo director in 2015, makes a cameo in Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman‘s new movie as Elektra, who appeared in 2003’s Daredevil with Affleck before getting her own 2005 eponymous flick.
In the scene, Deadpool (Reynolds) learns that Daredevil (Affleck) has died.
Elektra’s reaction? She tells Deadpool, “It’s fine.”
It’s all in good fun though, given Affleck, 51, and Garner, 52, have remained on good terms over the years, especially when it comes to their kids: Violet Affleck, 18, Seraphina Affleck, 15, and Samuel Affleck, 12.
In fact, Affleck’s wife Jennifer Lopez even applauded the exes for their relationship, telling Vogue in a 2022 interview that they “work really well together” and called Garner an “amazing coparent.”
Affleck and Garner themselves have also publicly supported each other.
“She’s just a fabulous person,” he said on CBS This Morning in 2016. “She’s just a wonderful person. She’s a great mother. She’s a real talent.”
“Life doesn’t always turn out exactly the way you want,” the Oscar winner added. “We’re doing our very best and we’re putting our kids first.”
And everything outside of family comes second.
As Affleck has noted, Garner has “set such a good example and a lead that I follow. She’s somebody that I admire and respect and remain excellent friends with.”
Meanwhile, Garner has remained Affleck’s biggest fan.
She even gave him a sweet nod for Father’s Day 2023, writing on Instagram, “Shout out to BGA—no one loves their kids like you love ours.”
