Ikea Wembley changes trademark logo ahead of Virgil Abloh’s collection launch

Ikea has changed its trademark logo ahead of its highly-anticipated Virgil Abloh collection, MARKERAD, which launches in stores tomorrow.

For the first time in its history, the logo has been altered in homage to the Off-White founder and Louis Vuitton Men’s Artistic Director, with Ikea putting its logo in quotes – a trademark of Abloh.

Ikea has only transformed the storefront of its Wembley branch, and we’re told the altered “IKEA” sign will stay up for the launch weekend so that those with tickets will have the full Virgil Abloh x Ikea experience.

The range is being sold through a ticketing system which sold out in under five minutes earlier this month. The MARKERAD collection will only be available to buy at Wembley, Croydon and Dublin stores from 1st – 3rd November for those who were able to get a ticket.

And to cater to the unprecedented number of customers anticipated when the doors open tomorrow at 9am, Ikea has created ‘the world’s comfiest queue’ featuring sofas, armchairs, blankets and cushions, so waiting fans can relax in style.

Thousands are expected to visit Ikea Wembley over the next three days to get their hands on the cutting-edge, 14-piece MARKERAD collection. With prices starting from £10, the range includes everyday objects that have been transformed into statement designs, catering to fluid and contemporary living.

The IKEA Store in Wembley London has placed quotation marks around its iconic sign, to mark the launch of the hotly anticipated MARKERAD collection, which has been done in collaboration with designer Virgil Abloh

If there is still availability from 4th November, ‘customers will have the opportunity to purchase remaining stock without a ticket from participating stores’, Ikea confirms.

Jared Sager, Head of Collections, Ikea UK & Ireland, says of the collection: ‘When we first found out about the collaboration between Virgil Abloh and Ikea, we knew it would be a special collection, and excitement has been building ever since. Being able to offer our customers items designed by one of the world’s most sought-after designers at affordable prices is something we’re really proud of, and we can’t wait to hear what people think.’
