Star Wars comes to Fortnite with new Stormtrooper skin

It’s already happened to the Avengers and John Wick, and now it’s happening to the Empire’s finest, as Star Wars X Fortnite becomes a thing.

It was only a matter of time until it happened, but with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order out this week and Star Was: The Rise Of Skywalker in cinemas next month (plus The Mandalorian, if you’re American or Belgian) Star Wars has come to Fortnite. It’s a fairly modest crossover though and at the moment only involves a single Stormtrooper skin, which costs 1,500 V-Bucks of in-game money (around £12) to purchase. However, if you’ve pre-ordered Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order on any format you’ll be able to download it for free.

That does seem an awful lot of money just to look like the galaxy’s worst shots, especially as it looks really weird having Stormtroopers running around shooting real(-ish) guns. Avengers got a whole new game mode and the chance to play as Thanos, while Borderlands 3 had its own special area based on the game’s iconic art style, so this does seem like a bit of a minimum effort – or perhaps just a prelude to a bigger promotion closer to the movie’s release. It is an Imperial Stormtrooper after all, not a First Order one, which implies it’s meant more as a tie-in to Fallen Order than the new film.

A Star Destroyer has also appeared in the skies above the Fortnite map, so that could be an indication that more is to come… or just a reminder to go out and buy Fallen Order. We can’t advise on whether to do that yet because EA has refused to send out review copies to most websites, allegedly because Lucasfilm were worried about plot spoilers.
