Daft Punk confirm they’ve split up after 28 years with dramatic Epilogue explosion video
DAFT Punk have split up after 28 years of making music.
The French electronic dance music act – Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo – announced their retirement with a video titled “Epilogue” that they posted today.
The Get Lucky hitmakers are rarely seen without their robot helmets and wear the disguises as they bid fans a final farewell.
The eight minute video sees the pair walking around the desert in their helmets and wearing their trademark ‘Daft Punk’ leather jackets.
After a few moments, one of the robots looks at the other, takes his jacket off and reveals an energy pack on the back.
The other robot touches a button on the pack and the first one walks away quickly, and then explodes in dramatic scenes.
The video then cuts to a sunset as a version of their song “Touch” plays.
The song is from Daft Punk’s 2013 “Random Access Memories” album.

The record featured their global hit single “Get Lucky” and they won the Grammy Award for Best Album.
The band’s publicist confirmed their split to Variety but refused to say whether they will continue working together under different names or if other new projects are in the works.
The musical duo met at school in Paris in the mid 1980s and formed their band in 1993.
They released their debut album Homework in 1997 with their hit singles “Around the World” and “Da Funk” gaining them critical raves and commercial success.
The duo began wearing their iconic robot helmets in public and during press appearances with the release of their 2001 follow-up, Discovery.
In 2007 Kanye West released Stronger which sampled and heavily borrowed the band’s track Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.
