Meghan Markle is facing renewed criticism after evidence emerged in a recent podcast episode suggesting she used her former royal title, “HRH,” despite a previous agreement to stop using it.
Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, stepped down from their roles as working members of the royal family in March 2020 and reached an understanding with the late Queen and senior palace officials not to use royal titles, including “Royal,” following what became known as “Megzette.”
However, a photo emerged during the episode showing a gift basket labeled “With the compliments of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex.” This sparked widespread debate about Meghan’s possible breach of the agreement.
During the interview with her friend Jamie Kern Lima, Meghan spoke about sending her homemade strawberry jam, saying, “It wasn’t even fully preserved because it hadn’t fermented yet I just made it quickly because we had a lot of strawberries at the time. I knew, even if we didn’t talk about it, that it would please you.”
Meghan’s representatives denied that she deliberately used the title. While there are no laws against using the title, the agreement made after stepping down from royal roles was clear about not using official titles.
Buckingham Palace has been contacted for official comment.
Elsewhere in the episode, Meghan spoke about her current relationship with her husband, describing it as a “new honeymoon period.” She said that they have enjoyed a sense of privacy after leaving royal life, which has allowed them to enjoy each other more deeply.
She added, “Initially, there were butterflies, as there are at the beginning of any relationship. But after just six months of dating, we were immediately thrust into the spotlight and into difficult circumstances by the media. We were in the trenches together.”
She continued, “Now, seven years later, with some breathing room and some rest, we can enjoy each other again. That’s why this is like a honeymoon for us.”
Meghan praised Prince Harry for his dedication to protecting the family, saying, “He always does everything he can to keep our family safe and support us, and he finds time for date nights, too.”
She concluded with admiration, “My husband is very handsome, if you haven’t noticed, but he has a heart that’s even more beautiful than his looks.”
